X 18.0 cm X 13.0 cm. This mythical creature is said to appear every full moon near owners home that will receive good news of increased wealth or monetary gain.

These mythical frog is believed to be the bearer of good fortune, which is why you see them bringing coin with them. It is usually placed near cash registers or in a wealth corner (the furthest back left corner of a room or building). The character for bat is fu. In a happy coincidence, the character for good luck is also fu. The bat is a symbol of good luck but the positive associations dont stop there.

In messages of good wishes, a bat is sometimes accompanied by the character for longevity. In this case, though, it is the creatures attributes that make for the additional meaning, since bats dwell in caverns and such caverns are also the passageway to the realm of the Immortals. From the symbolism of good fortune and long life, it is a just a small step to that for fertility as well. Crossing over into western culture, even Pliny the Elder, Roman natural historian of the first century, acknowledged that the blood of a bat , when placed under the pillow of a woman, acted as an aphrodisiac. Perhaps one of the most popular positive bat tattoo symbols, however, is the Chinese wu fu , or five bats. In this symbol, sometimes four bats are shown surrounding a fifth bat or five bats circulate around a stylized symbol for longevity. In both cases, the five bats stand for the Five Happinesses: wealth, long life, peace, cultivation of virtue (or sometimes good health), and a good death.

Taking the symbolism one step further, a Chinese bat (or simply the character for fu) will sometimes be placed upside down. That orientation derives from the fact that the words for upside down and to arrive also sound the same in Chinese (dao), such that the upside down bat means that good luck has arrived. In our example, set against grey clouds, two colorful and playful bats (one upside down) encompass the boldly red symbol for wealth. Hopefully the gods of good fortune are watching. The tortoise is the land bound creature and is exclusively terrestrial.

In myth and folklore the tortoise represents determination and longevity. Tortoises have high domed shells and heavy elephant like hind legs. The weight of its shell keeps it from moving too fast. The heaviness of its hind legs gives it the strength to carry heavy loads.

Those with this totem often carry the loads of others as well as burdens of self. They make good therapists but must be careful but not take the problems of other people. One of the most ancient and adaptable creatures, the tortoise hold the energy of patience and perseverance. They are very sensitive to the environment in which they live and have a strong physical connection to the mother earth. Extreme changes in climate conditions can affect their overall disposition. Tortoise medicine people need a stable environment for their overall well being. Without this stability they are prone to mood swings. The tortoise feels vibrations within the earth and reacts strongly to them.

By observing the tortoise's behavior we are forewarned of any imbalances within the earth's core before an actual change occurs. This helps us prepare for geophysical changes in a balanced way. The tortoise is a self-reliant and self-determined.

Its ability to survive as long as it has is partly due to its talent to stay focused. When this medicine fully developed within us we use these gifts efficiently. If this medicine is underdeveloped staying centered in spite of the constant distractions that appear in our day-to-day life will be our greatest challenge. Tortoises are vegetarians and are very terrestrial.

Those with this totem can benefit from a similar diet and often place a great deal of importance on a stable home environment. The tortoise carries their home on their backs and reminds us that although stability is important in our life true stability lies within ourselves. Moving slowing through life the tortoise observes and processing everything efficiently. This movement compliments its inner wisdom. When the tortoise shuttles into your life it is ready to share that wisdom with you.

All you need to do is slow down, pay attention and begin to move with patient persistence. In this way, longevity , inner strength and harmonious lifestyle are attained. Absolutely masterfully carved Chinese art.
